Short Stay 'C' Visa
Short Stay 'C' Visa (C) is issued by Immigration Service Delivery. VisaAI tracks 20 official requirements for it, each traced to the government page that states it.

VisaAI is not a government body and does not issue visas. It cannot decide, predict or guarantee the outcome of an application, and this page is not legal or immigration advice.
Requirements change. Confirm every item on Immigration Service Delivery’s own page before you apply.
Each requirement below is written in plain English by VisaAI. The indented text beneath it is quoted from Immigration Service Delivery’s own page, so you can check what we say against what they say. Where a quotation shows “ ... ”, text has been left out.
Conditions you must meet
- Stay of up to 90 days
A short stay or ‘C’ visa allows you travel to Ireland for up to 90 days
- No paid or unpaid work of any kind
This visa does not allow you to: Do paid or unpaid work of any kind
- No use of publicly funded services
Use any publicly funded services, such as a public hospital.
- Apply from your home country or country of legal residence, before travelling
Apply for a visa before travelling. You must do this from your home country or the country where you are a legal resident.
- One application per traveller; no family visas or e-visas
Apply for a visa for each person travelling. Ireland do not issue Family visas or E-visas
- A visa permits travel to Ireland, not entry — an immigration officer may still refuseRecorded so an approved visa is never presented to a user as guaranteed entry.
A visa allows you to travel to Ireland only. It does not give you permission to enter the country or to stay here. An immigration officer at border control can refuse entry even if you have a visa.
- Documents must be submitted in hardcopyISD explicitly rejects USB sticks, memory cards, CD-ROMs and file-sharing links.
Documents in hardcopy format only will be accepted
- The application letter must commit you to obey visa conditions, not burden the state, and leave on time
Your letter must also include a commitment from you that you will: Obey the conditions of your visa in full Not rely on public services (for example public hospitals) or become a burden on the State Leave Ireland before your immigration permission expires.
- There is no minimum amount of money requiredRecorded explicitly because the absence of a figure is itself the rule. Every other destination in this registry publishes a threshold; inventing one for Ireland, or carrying one across from a neighbour, would be a fabricated requirement.
Note: There is no minimum amount of finance for approving or refusing a visa application. The visa officer will decide if you have enough based on your own circumstances.
- Disclose every previous visa or preclearance refusal, from any country
For all visa or preclearance applications, if you have been refused a visa or preclearance in the past for any country, you must provide details to us. The original letter issued to you by the authorities of that country must be provided with your application. Not disclosing any previous visa refusals will result in your application being refused.
Documents you must provide
- Current passport, valid for at least 6 months after your planned departure from Ireland
Your current passport – your current passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the date you plan to leave Ireland
- Photocopy of every page of all previous passports
A photocopy of each page from all previous passports you have (where available). Your application will be delayed if you do not provide copies of all previous passports you have
- Two passport-sized colour photographs, signed and numbered on the back
Include 2 passport-sized colour photographs of the visa applicant. On the back of each photo: Sign your name (in your native script and language) Write your Visa Application Transaction Number from AVATS
- Printed, signed and dated AVATS application summary sheets
Print, sign and date the application summary sheets (from AVATS).
- A signed application letter explaining the visit
Type or write a letter explaining why you want to come to Ireland. Sign and date the letter and submit it with your documents.
- Evidence of strong family, social or economic ties to your country of residence
it is important that you provide evidence that you have strong family, social or economic ties to your country of residence. This is necessary in order to satisfy the Visa Officer that you will leave Ireland on, or before, your intended date of departure from Ireland.
- Evidence you can support yourself in IrelandSee finances_no_minimum: ISD sets no threshold, so none is shown to the applicant.
You must show that you have enough finance (money) to support yourself in Ireland.
- Medical or travel insurance — not required with the application, required at the borderDeliberately kept as one requirement rather than split: the point is the timing. Listing it as an application document would be wrong, and omitting it would leave someone arriving without it.
Evidence of medical or travel insurance does not need to be provided with your application. However, the Visa Officer may request it before they make a decision on your application. If your visa is approved, you must have evidence of medical or travel insurance when you arrive at the port of entry (airport or seaport) and must present it to the Immigration Officer on request.
